The Rural Tasmanian GP Atlas is maintained by GP Workforce Tasmania Inc.

GPW Tasmania is funded by the Australian Government to improve access to general practitioner services, to encourage better links between general practice and the rest of the health system and to enhance the quality of general practice. Funding is provided specifically through the Rural and Remote General Practice Program (RRGPP) to Rural Workforce Agencies in each State and Territory to provide support and assistance in the recruitment and retention of GPs in rural and remote areas.

We gratefully acknowledge the funding support of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing in the development of the Atlas during 2003.  The site was redeveloped in August 2008.

Organisations listed on the GP Atlas are not charged a fee for this service.

The GP Atlas seeks to demystify the General Practice sector in Tasmania by providing a catalogue of relevant online and other information resources for rural GPs and their family members, Practice Managers, Practice Nurses, GP Registrars, prevocational doctors, medical and other students.

Moreover, the GP Atlas acts as a platform to support the recruitment and retention of general practitioners in rural areas of Tasmania. There is an emphasis on the support of overseas-trained doctors and their families.
